What’s your favorite keepsake? Susan Feniger, chef and author of Susan Feniger’s Street Food, cherishes a necklace that was given to her over 25 years ago during a trip to India. She had gone to visit a good friend who lived on an ashram, to help out in the kitchen with a group of local women. This was a magical time in her life, filled with new sights, sounds and experiences. Meeting these women not only opened her eyes to new tastes and techniques, but to new ways of connecting with others.

“Cooking with them showed me how we can communicate with food, regardless of what language we speak. Whenever I see the necklace, I realize how important that time was for me. Being there opened my eyes to the world.”
